27 + D for the OC ask! OC of your choice

(Sorry this took so long, I've been so busy ahh!!!! Also fun fact: 27 actually inspired me to re-write the first comic scene which I'm still working on.)

27. What causes them to feel dread?

He tries not to acknowledge it, but ceremorphosis scares the hell out of him. You can’t imagine how much of a relief it was for him to run into Wyll after recruiting the others because under normal circumstances he would never work with someone like Lae’zel, Shadowheart or Astarion. He doesn’t want to trust them, but knows that he has to in order to get out of this thing alive, and he hates how much they refused to trust him at first either.

And he couldn’t acknowledge it, could he? He had to keep his head level for the others. Even as he watched Lae’zel nearly kill herself just trying to get the parasite out. Even as he took more tadpoles, desperately trying anything that he thought could help him defeat the Absolute. He finally broke when the Emperor forced the astral tadpole on him. It was such a terrible violation of his trust and autonomy and he felt so hollow for days after. He still had to go on, but it was a lot more obvious to the others how much everything was weighing on him. He had a conversation with Jaheira about how he wanted her to kill him if they failed.

Discovering that someone had to become a full Mindflayer in order to defeat the Netherbrain sent him reeling. He knew what he was supposed to do - selflessly sacrifice himself for the greater good. That’s what heroes did. But it just wasn’t fair, was it? To come all this way, to finally have friends and a chance at a life that wasn’t just scraping by week to week. To lose any chance at being himself again. Everything that he’d lose the moment he became illithid.

So he didn’t. He couldn’t. Of course, they did eventually defeat the Absolute, and lost the parasite. Aelar even lost his half-illithid traits - his body was fully his once again. But he was still permanently changed by the Emperor’s betrayal, and it would send him on a much darker path when he was in Avernus with Karlach and Wyll.

D. Have they always had the same physical appearance, or have you had to edit how they look?

Most of my Tavs have stayed the same so I’m gonna go with Aradius, because I keep going back and changing him lol.
